What does "Combiotic" actually mean?

Combiotic is HiPP's proprietary term for the combination of prebiotics (GOS fiber) and probiotics (live lactic acid cultures). Together, they support both the food source and the live bacteria in your baby's gut - a dual approach to building a healthy microbiome. The name signals that this is HiPP's premium formula tier, going beyond their standard Organic line.

What is Metafolin and why does it matter?

Metafolin is the brand name for calcium L-methylfolate - the active, ready-to-use form of folate. Standard baby formulas use synthetic folic acid, which the body must convert before it can be absorbed. Roughly 10-15% of people carry an MTHFR gene variation that reduces this conversion. Metafolin bypasses the conversion step entirely, meaning every baby benefits fully regardless of genetics. It's a meaningful upgrade that most formula brands don't offer.

Are the probiotic cultures in HiPP Combiotic actually alive?

Yes. HiPP uses a specific strain - Limosilactobacillus fermentum Hereditum - that survives the formula powder manufacturing process. The cultures are added after heat processing to preserve viability. HiPP has conducted multiple clinical studies confirming that Hereditum cultures remain active and establish successfully in infant gut microbiomes. This is clinically validated, not just a marketing claim.

Does the water temperature matter more with Combiotic than regular formula?

Yes - slightly. For most formulas, water up to 70°C is used to eliminate any bacteria in the powder. Because HiPP Combiotic contains live cultures, HiPP recommends water no hotter than 40-50°C (104-122°F) to preserve the viability of those cultures. Use freshly boiled water cooled to this range. If you are concerned about bacterial safety in the powder, consult your pediatrician - they can advise on the right preparation for your specific situation.

Should I choose PRE Combiotic or Stage 1 Combiotic for a newborn?

The probiotic and Metafolin content is identical in both. The only difference is that Stage 1 Combiotic includes organic starch for a thicker texture. PRE Combiotic is the right choice if your newborn has normal to sensitive digestion and you want the lightest, most breast-milk-like formula. Stage 1 Combiotic is a better fit if your baby seems frequently hungry and needs extra satiety. Both are suitable from birth.

How long does one box last?

One 600g box contains approximately 133 scoops. In the first weeks feeding 60-90ml per bottle 6-8 times daily, a box lasts around 8-10 days. By 3-4 months with 150-180ml bottles, expect 6-7 days per box. Our bundle options - especially the 8-box and 12-box sets - are the most cost-effective way to stock up and ensure you never run short.

Important: Breast milk is best for babies. HiPP PRE Combiotic is suitable as a complete breast milk substitute or supplement from birth. Advantages

Ingredient list is the cleanest I found after weeks of research, baby accepted it right away alongside breastfeeding, noticeably fewer spit-up episodes

Disadvantages

Price adds up quickly in the first two months when feeds are frequent, but the quality justifies it
