What is the difference between HiPP PRE Organic and HiPP PRE Combiotic?

Both are starch-free organic formulas suitable from birth - the core nutrition is very similar. The key difference: HiPP PRE Combiotic contains natural lactic acid cultures (live probiotic bacteria), while HiPP PRE Organic does not. If your baby has normal digestion and healthy bowel movements, PRE Organic is an excellent clean-label choice. For babies with sensitive tummies or a family history of digestive issues, the Combiotic version adds an extra layer of gut support.

Why is no starch an advantage for a newborn?

In breast milk, lactose is the sole carbohydrate - there is no starch. HiPP PRE Organic mirrors this exactly. Starch makes formula thicker and more filling, which suits some babies, but it also requires slightly more digestive effort. For the first weeks of life when a newborn's gut is still maturing, the lighter, starch-free formula tends to cause less gas and digestive discomfort. If your baby is hungry quickly after every feeding, HiPP Stage 1 (with starch) may be a better fit.

How long does one 600g box last?

One box contains approximately 133 scoops. In the first weeks with 60-90ml bottles (2-3 scoops each) and 6-8 feeds per day, a box lasts around 8-10 days. Does HiPP PRE Organic meet US nutritional requirements?

HiPP PRE Organic is formulated to EU standards, which differ slightly from FDA requirements - most notably regarding iron (EU formulas have lower iron levels than the US recommendation). When should I transition from PRE Organic to Stage 1 or Stage 2?

HiPP PRE Organic can be used from birth through to 6 months - there is no requirement to move on to Stage 1 at any particular point. If your baby seems satisfied on PRE, you can continue until 6 months when Stage 2 becomes appropriate. If your baby seems frequently hungry or prefers a thicker formula, you can switch to Stage 1 at any time - it is also suitable from birth.

Advantages

Third baby and first time using a European formula - wish I'd found this sooner. No digestive issues, no spit-up increase, and she sleeps well. The lactose-only carb source was the main reason I chose PRE over Stage 1.

Disadvantages

Wish it came in an 800g size to reduce how often we reorder.

Advantages

Ordered for our daughter after our pediatrician mentioned European formulas often have cleaner ingredient lists. No corn syrup, no maltodextrin, just what a newborn actually needs. She's been on it for 6 weeks with no issues whatsoever.

Disadvantages

Price is noticeably higher than US store brands but we feel it's worth it.

Advantages

My newborn took to this formula immediately with no gas or fussiness. The starch-free formula really does feel lighter - her belly seems so much more comfortable than with our previous brand. Love that it's EU organic and made in Germany.
