Why does iron more than double from Stage 1 to Stage 2?

During pregnancy, mothers transfer iron stores to their baby that sustain the infant through approximately the first 6 months of life. After this point, those reserves begin to deplete - and neither breast milk nor Stage 1 formula provides enough iron to replace them at the rate needed. HiPP Stage 2 Combiotic increases iron from 0.60mg to 1.0mg per 100ml specifically to compensate for this shift. Iron is essential for producing hemoglobin, supporting energy metabolism, and maintaining the rapid cognitive development that occurs throughout the second half of year one.

Do the live cultures in Stage 2 Combiotic stay the same as Stage 1?

Yes. The same Hereditum strain - Limosilactobacillus fermentum - is used across all Combiotic formulas. This means your baby receives consistent, continuous probiotic support through the entire weaning period. The gut microbiome is particularly active during the weaning transition as it encounters new foods, making maintained probiotic support especially valuable between 6 and 12 months.

How does Stage 2 Combiotic work alongside solid foods?

Formula remains the primary nutrition source even after weaning begins. At 6-7 months with 3-4 bottles per day, it delivers most of your baby's calories, iron, DHA, and micronutrients. As solid intake increases through 9-12 months, formula feeding naturally reduces to 2-3 bottles daily. Stage 2 Combiotic is designed to complement this transition - the higher iron and calcium are specifically calibrated for the weaning stage, not the newborn period.

Should I choose Stage 2 Combiotic or Stage 2 Organic?
